I admit, I am not as up on the espionage genre as you are, Ethan. I have read a Fleming or two, and maybe one Le Carre book. But the Herron books I have blown through ( even somewhat before the TV show)..to me, he has a certain necessary cynicism about world affairs and contemporary politics in general. And that makes it all the more believable

The other thing I like about Herron: He is/was a poet. It is his facility with language that gives him something extra
