Interesting that you pointed out how Ellingtonian "Scorpio" is. MLW actually wrote an arrangement of "Scorpio" for the Ellington band in 1946, but they never recorded it. It's been recorded more recently by both the Dutch Jazz Orchestra and the U.S. Army Jazz Ambassadors on their respective MLW tribute albums. To my ears, her arrangement sounds like some of what Ellington would write in the '50s and '60s

Huh! Very interesting! Of course, this kind of "exotica" goes back to the Cotton Club etc. in Duke's book. Still, I'm sure Duke wasn't above borrowing from Mary Lou, he called her "soul on soul."

For many reasons, including all you’ve outlined here, it’s a very important recording. I just ordered the vinyl.

Actually, and I hope I’m in the not too far a field Marshall fields I mean I found at the library an old Nat King Cole record with a “little Joe from Chicago” yet someone just sent me a News a week to late of Josh Shedroff Redman—- his cousins Dan and Nathan were my classmates, Irish twins, although we are all Jewish— and blue note has a link to Josh has a Chicago a mash up that includes Sufjan Stevens. Not sure if this is a question or a commission. I’m saying you could one-up him.
