Good morning, it’s September 1. Back to school; for me that means back to New England Conservatory. I try to teach the jazz tradition, but that doesn’t mean I want my students to ignore today. One of my essays addresses this conundrum.

Despite all the NYC jazz teachers in Boston, we rarely play gigs together in unexpected configurations. However, on September 22, I meet Linda May Han Oh for the first time in a trio with Billy Hart at Regattabar in Cambridge.

This is part of the grand re-opening of Regattabar.

Looking ahead to January, the Billy Hart quartet with Mark Turner, Ben Street, and myself joins the Jazz Cruise Celebrity Summit.
