For me, the Bill Evans sessions are the zenith of an amazing life. That mournful “oh well” in the refrain of “Some Other Time” is for me an almost unbearable moment of heartbreak. But transcendent at the same time. I avoid cliche at all costs, but this is truly the end of an era. He’s the last guy.
