Terrible news: I received an urgent email from the owner of Soapbox; he’s tested positive for Covid. The person he would otherwise have appointed to take over running the show is out of the country, so unfortunately we have no other choice but to cancel the rest of the festival.

These are my favorite musicians, and I’ve been writing up why I love them. My already published thoughts on those who were supposed to come on the series:
Alvin Singleton (Momenta Quartet)
The people I haven’t covered are Scott Wollschleger, Aaron Diehl, Marta Sánchez, and Robert Cuckson. SO MUCH to say about these people. I will write more this week, but this morning just need to get the news out.
Thanks to Seth Colter Walls for this really nice New York Times review of the first night.
Donny McCaslin came to the Chris Potter set
Miles Okazaki came to the Miranda Cuckson set
Sam Newsome and Sylvie Courvoisier played the last evening. It was great.
You did a very good thing by organizing this festival. You aren’t the first organizer of a small, excellent music festival who had something out of their control disrupt their good work. I am sure the musicians understand and appreciate your efforts. Don’t take it too hard. Keep on keeping on.
This cancellation is such a nightmare. It's obvious that like most people who program really interesting festivals, your motivation was to provide a showcase for colleagues whose work you value. I know most of this music will find other ways out, but I can hardly imagine how hard this news hit.
