I would think this is all a distraction. In my opinion, its who whe are as americans. the new deal -> great society was an aberration to our true identity. I dont agree with that thinking but im convinced thats the american character.

The MAGA mob and its fellow travelers would have people believe that "woke" is an attempt by affirmative action professors to force a radical Black agenda on the country. As if calling out the malicious lie that slaves somehow benefitted from their enslavement is somehow radical. If I understand you correctly, you make the point that woke is actually an oppositional consciousness whose critique has so changed public opinion that racial stereotyping is no longer acceptable.
Ethan, you are woke in advocating that every classical musician in this country learn the rudiments of its greatest music. And you are also in objecting to the elevation of a marginal African American composer whose aesthetic is more European than Black by the image conscious musical establishment.
