How nice that Hank Shteamer wrote up Tim Berne’s big birthday for the New York Times. [gift link.] Nice quotes from Bill Frisell and Branford Marsalis in the article! And Shteamer really nails something about Berne overall. Right on.
I owe Tim a lot, as do so many of my peer group, not to mention those both older and younger. He’s the man.
In 2009 I interviewed Tim for DTM.
He really is the man, such an inspiration. I just reread your interview with him, shaking my head again with appreciation for his lifelong dedication. We listeners owe him a lot too.
Tim is very much, The Man. Fearless and brilliant for over 40 years. So many great recordings.
