TT 40: 2020 gigs
NYE with Marcy Harriell, Corcoran Holt, and Vinnie Sperrazza at the Zinc bar was great! The club was sold out and Marcy killed it. A star is born! (I mean: a star in the jazz clubs in born, for Marcy’s been a star on big stages a lot already.)
If you are in New York and want to hear Marcy, we are reprising the set of Burt Bacharach and Hal David duo at the Sultan Room in Bushwick, Brooklyn, this Sunday, January 5, as part of a special event, “Cocktails & Crock Pots: A Northwoods Soiree,” with master chef Jack Riebel. (I’ll also play some solo piano originals.)
For those in the Twin Cities, we are going to do a Tribute to Chef Jack at his restaurant The Lexington in St. Paul. Burt Bacharach is Chef’s favorite composer, and Vinnie Sperrazza and I will be in town for MMDG Pepperland, so we decided to bring out Marcy Harriell and reprise our fabulous NYE set. Completing the band will be local legend Erik Fratzke on bass. January 24!
Other upcoming gigs:
+January 2 TONIGHT: Chet Doxas trio with Michael Formanek and me at Smalls, NYC.
+ January 25: Mark Morris Dance Group, Pepperland at Northrop Auditorium, Minneapolis. (Bonus track: Sarah Deming reads from Gravity at Red Balloon in St. Paul earlier that day.)
+ January 30 and 31: Mark Morris Dance Group, Pepperland at Cullen Theater, Houston.
+ February 8: Mark Morris Dance Group, Pepperland at Muriel Kauffman Theatre, Kansas City, Missouri
+February 13-29: Martin Speake quartet UK tour.

On the blog: A quick note about the late Jack Sheldon, mostly about his work on “The Long Goodbye” with John Williams.
Thanks for reading Transitional Technology. I sent all the paying subscribers a note from my private email, check your spam if you didn’t get it.

It was great waking up sober on New Year's! I quit drinking over three years ago, on Coltrane's birthday. I learned a lot being drunk, but at some point it's a time-waster even worse than Twitter. If anyone was thinking of making a move in that direction, you have my encouragement!
