TT 349: Soundtrack Delights
"Compared to What" and "Prisencolinensinainciusol" as accompaniment to gambling
After I posted about the late great Les McCann, my friend Tim Harmston sent me a missive:
As you know, Casino is my all time favorite movie. I'm guessing you knew that Scorsese used “Compared to What” in the soundtrack? It's literally my favorite scene in my favorite movie.
I had always thought it was such a great shot, and the underlying song often plays in my head randomly, but I never knew the song title and performer until I watched your YouTube link from TT 342. Thanks for completing the circle for me.
After I posted about Adriano Celentano’s surreal hit, my friend Vince Keenan sent me a missive:
My intro to "Prisencolinensinainciusol” was when it turned up as the soundtrack to a Minnesota bridge tournament shot like a Scorsese movie in a season 3 episode of Fargo.
The world works in mysterious ways? Is a hat trick inbound?
Both Tim and Vince have well-thought-out opinions on the James Bond franchise, so I will close with a quote from Ian Fleming’s Goldfinger:
“Mr. Bond, they have a saying in Chicago: ‘Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. The third time it's enemy action.’"
Another great one.
