TT 3 (Books, BAM, Birthday)
Today was my birthday; the nice thing about social media is how everybody knows and sends notes. (The one day a year when FB is worthwhile?)
The best present was being name-checked in new books by two favorite authors, Emily Bernard and Lawrence Block. I write more about all that in the latest DTM.
Looking ahead, the run of Pepperland with the Mark Morris Dance Group at BAM in May will almost certainly sell out. On tour it has gotten better and better. In a way Pepperland is a summation of my musical life so far, so if you are a New Yorker interested in all things Iverson, please reserve your ticket.

A bass student today at NEC asked me to recommend five albums with great bass playing that he hadn’t heard yet. My choices:
Joe Henderson w Ron Carter, Power to the People
Old and New Dreams w Charlie Haden, Playing
Wynton Kelly w Paul Chambers, Kelly Blue
Lee Konitz w Jimmy Garrison, Live at the Half Note
Johnny Griffin w Wilbur Ware, Sextet

Just a quick reminder that the new Do the Gig is going strong.
