TT 117: Marc-André Hamelin, George Coleman, a. o.
There’s no classical pianist I love and respect more than Marc-André Hamelin. I gently satirized him for his 60th birthday on my socials; the Twitter video was moderately viral.
The DTM interview with Hamelin is from 2008.
New DTM: A transcription of George Coleman playing the up blues with Elvin Jones in 1968. Great playing OMG.
Another new DTM: Televideo soundtracks in brief review.
I keep learning interesting stuff concerning the transitional years of the '40s. Fabulous new essay by Mark Stryker about Howard McGhee, with great photo by Gottlieb.
Melvin Gibbs, an important musician, has weighed in on “What is Jazz?”
And here's an interesting article about Jamey Aebersold's Play-A-Longs by Matthew D. Thibeault.
