Marimba Sonata single
and tonight in Detroit with Mark Morris and Burt Bacharach
A new Playfair Sonatas single is out, the first movement, "Allegro" from Marimba Sonata. With Makoto Nakura on marimba. Tuneful and fun! I'm serious!
The full album releases on November 15. Pre-order it here. Since the pre-orders are doing comparatively well, Amazon cut the price by $2.50, trying to sweep the competitors. $13.26 for a 2-CD set with cover art by Roz Chast is not bad!
Ken Talbot reviewed the album for MusicWeb International. “Each soloist was asked follow the score but to play the piece bringing as much personal style as they wish, stretching the boundaries between classical and jazz styles. This is Iverson’s principle aim, to create new and exciting music at the boundaries between the two styles.”
Greetings from Detroit, where I am part of The Look of Love, an evening of Burt Bacharach with the Mark Morris Dance Group at the Detroit Opera House. The choreography is by Mark Morris and music arranged and played by myself. Bacharach’s hit songs are sung by Marcy Harriell accompanied by Blaire Perrin, Clinton Curtis, Nadje Noodhuis, Simón Willson, and Vinnie Sperrazza.
Concerts tonight and tomorrow matinee.
Duante Beddingfield wrote up a nice preview for the Detroit Free Press, with quotes from Mark and yours truly.

Just got tickets for tomorrow's Sunday matinee. The first record I ever bought with my own money was "Anyone Who Had a Heart" when I was 8 or 9 years old. The lady at the counter almost refused to sell it to me because she thought I didn't know what I was doing. It's a great song, full of drama and passion, and I could feel it in my little bones.
I hope you and Mr. Nakura are get along better than John Lewis and Milt Jackson!
