business blast includes gigs in Philadelphia, Nashville, Spain, plus essays that impress
Vinnie Sperrazza on Kenny Clarke. Every time we play some jazz, we play some Klook.
Ray Banks on the late Roger Corman. The best overview of Corman I’ve seen. In a related topic: Vince Keenan on a new book covering Blaxploitation by Odie Henderson.
Welcome James Busby to Substack! At This is Not a Review, Busby offers short and sometimes hilarious responses to a truly wide variety of records. I hadn’t thought of Four Corners by the Yellowjackets in some time, but I remember when it came out in 1987 because an alto sax friend bought the cassette and we auditioned “Out of Town” together. I was surprised when I re-listened last week: in its way, “Out of Town” is an ambitious work.
Larry Blumenfeld on Ron Miles and Curtis Fowlkes. Reviews of important posthumous releases.
Also, Blumenfeld interviews Ashley Capps of Big Ears. Great interview!
Nate Chinen on “My Jacob Collier Problem.” Nice one.
Bill Holman obit by Clay Risen in the NYT.
