business blast: fall schedule including performances in Canada and the Midwest
Tonight in San Francisco: Fog Cutter Series Vol. 1., where I join host Robert Mailer Anderson for discussion of Round Midnight and perhaps even a live performance of Thelonious Monk’s title composition. Full details here.
New! A scrolling score video of “Conundrum,” the theme song from the (imaginary) quiz show of the same name. Tempi and feel are marked alongside various events concerning the quiz: “Do you know the answer,” “hit the buzzer” and so forth. This is the temp track (straight out of the Dorico music notation program) sent to Thomas Morgan and Kush Abadey before recording.
The finished track with Thomas and Kush leads off my second Blue Note album, Technically Acceptable. Video of the trio playing the piece:
Next NYC play: October 25-27 at Birdland with Peter Washington and Peter Erskine. It’s relatively rare for Peter Erskine to play a club gig in New York, this engagement will almost certainly sell out.
I’m coming to Canada next week, playing trio with some great local musicians:
9/21 Upstairs Jazz Bar & Grill, Montreal with John Geggie and Nick Fraser
9/24 McKay United Church, Ottawa, with John Geggie and Nick Fraser
9/25-28 The Rex Hotel, Toronto with Dan Fortin and Nick Fraser
There’s a couple of USA swings as well, this time with NYC rhythm sections. First leg is with Simón Willson and Kush Abadey:
10/4 Uncle Cheefs, Brewster
10/5 Brvsh Cul7ur3, Teaneck
10/6 Hudson Jazz Fest
Second leg is with Simón Willson and Vinnie Sperrazza
10/30 Constellation, Chicago
10/31 Caffè Vivace, Cincinnati (we will play the theme from Halloween)
11/1 Bop Stop, Cleveland
11/8 Noce Jazz & Cabaret, Des Moines
